Now used daily by developers, XML is living up to its reputation as one of the most important developments in document interchange in the history of computing.A perennial bestseller, the handy XML Pocket Reference from O'Reilly has been revised once again to give you quick access to the latest goods. In addition to its comprehensive look at XML, this third edition has been updated with new material on Namespaces and XML Schema--considered among the most important elements in current XML use--along with RELAX NG and Schematron, additional powerful tools for describing XML document structures.Like other titles in O'Reilly's Pocket Reference series, the XML Pocket Reference, 3rd Edition features a well-organized format that gets right to the point. As a result, it's already won over the allegiance of developers everywhere. If you need XML answers quick and on the fly, this compact book is most definitely the book for you.

Use this guide to master the XML metalanguage and JSON data format along with significant Java APIs for parsing and creating XML and JSON documents from the Java language. New in this edition is coverage of Jackson (a JSON processor for Java) and Oracle's own Java API for JSON processing (JSON-P), which is a JSON processing API for Java EE that also can be used with Java SE. This new edition of Java XML and JSON also expands coverage of DOM and XSLT to include additional API content and useful examples. All examples in this book have been tested under Java 11. In some cases, source code has been simplified to use Java 11's var language feature. The first six chapters focus on XML along with the SAX, DOM, StAX, XPath, and XSLT APIs. The remaining six chapters focus on JSON along with the mJson, GSON, JsonPath, Jackson, and JSON-P APIs. Each chapter ends with select exercises designed to challenge your grasp of the chapter's content. An appendix provides the answers to these exercises. What You'll Learn Master the XML languageCreate, validate, parse, and transform XML documentsApply Java's SAX, DOM, StAX, XPath, and XSLT APIsMaster the JSON format for serializing and transmitting dataCode against third-party APIs such as Jackson, mJson, Gson, JsonPathMaster Oracle's JSON-P API in a Java SE context Who This Book Is For Intermediate and advanced Java programmers who are developing applications that must access data stored in XML or JSON documents. The book also targets developers wanting to understand the XML language and JSON data format.

Since its first edition in 2003, the XML Database Symposium series (XSym) has been a forum for academics, practitioners, users and vendors, allowing all to discuss the use of and synergy between database management systems and XML. The symposia have provided many opportunities for timely discussions on a broad range of topics pertaining to the theory and practice of XML data management and its applications. XSym 2010 continued this XSym tradition with a program consisting of 11 papers and a keynote shared with the 36th International Conference on Very Large Data Bases (VLDB 2010). We received 20 paper submissions, out of which 8 papers were accepted as full papers, and 3 as short papers. Each submitted paper underwent a rigorous and careful review by four referees. The contributions in these proceedings are a fine sample of the current research in XML query processing, including XPath satisfiability, approximate joins, pattern matching, linear index construction for trees, dynamic labeling, and XQuery update translation based on schema. The papers focus on recent advances in detecting fu- tional dependencies, modeling complex XML twig pattern output, promoting sem- tics capability of XML keys, and searchable compression of Microsoft office do- ments. In addition, we include a paper that shares lessons learned from real XML database development.

Since its first edition in 2003, the XML Database Symposium series (XSym) has been a forum for academics, practitioners, users and vendors, allowing all to discuss the use of and synergy between database management systems and XML. The previous symposia have provided opportunities for timely discussions on a broad range of topics pertaining to the theory and practice of XML data management and its applications. XSym 2009 continued this XSym tradition with a program consisting of 15 papers and a keynote shared with the 12th International Symposium on Database Programming Languages (DBPL 2009). We received 26 paper submissions, out of which eight papers were accepted as full papers, and seven as short/demo papers. Each submitted paper underwent a rigorous and careful review by four referees for long papers and three for the short ones. The contributions in these proceedings are a fine sample of the very best current - search in XML query processing, including full text, keyword and loosely structured queries, stream querying and joins, and materialized views. Among new theoretical advances we included work on a lambda-calculus model of XML and XPath, on m- ping from the enhanced entity-relationship conceptual model to the W3C XML Schema Language, on transactions, and extensions to XPath. Finally, work on data parallel algorithms, compression, and practical aspects of XQuery, including query forms and the use of Prolog are also part of this volume.

After years of anticipation and delay, the W3C finally released the XSLT 2.0 standard in January 2007. The revised edition of this classic book offers practical, real-world examples that demonstrate how you can apply XSLT stylesheets to XML data using either the new specification, or the older XSLT 1.0 standard.XSLT is a critical language for converting XML documents into other formats, such as HTML code or a PDF file. With XSLT, you get a thorough understanding of XSLT and XPath and their relationship to other web standards, along with recommendations for a honed toolkit in an open platform-neutral, standards-based environment. This book:- Covers the XSLT basics, including simple stylesheets and methods for setting up transformation engines- Walks you through the many parts of XSLT, particularly XSLT's template-based approach to transformations- Applies both XSLT 1.0 and 2.0 solutions to the same problems, helping you decide which version of XSLT is more appropriate for your project- Includes profuse examples that complement both the tutorial and the reference materialThe new edition of XSLT has been updated thoroughly to explain XSLT 2.0's many dependencies, notably XML Schema and XPath 2.0. Want to find out how the 2.0 specification improves on the old? This book will explain.

Visualizing the Semantic Web

The Web is undergoing revolutionary changes - its second generation is emerging. The key player in the new generation is not HTML but XML (this is why it is also known as "the XML-based Web"). If the appearance of web pages is a major concern in the first generation, then the meaning (or semantics) of information on the Web is the focus of the second generation, which is why it is also called "the Semantic Web." The new edition of the pioneering monograph on Visualising the Semantic Web has undergone a number of changes in order to reflect recent research results, web standards, developments and trends. In this new edition, 2 chapters have been removed, 4 new chapters have been added and the 10 remaining chapters have been completely revised and updated.
